MAREOMOTRIZ. Spanish term for TIDAL POWER.

MARINE ENERGY. Energy generated from the movement of the sea. To take advantage of the energy potential of the oceans, different devices are being developed that are capable of converting this energy into electricity and transporting it to land. The sub-types of marine energy are wave power and tidal power.

MECHANICAL POWER. The work done by a machine or person in a determined interval of time.

MEGAWATT (MW). A million watts. Standard measure of the installed capacity or power of electricity production installations.

MEGAWATT-HOUR (MWh). One thousand kilowatt-hours. Standard measure for electricity production.

MERRILL LYNCH INDEX. Index for the world renewable energies and biofuels market, created by the Merrill Lynch World Mining Fund.

METEOFLOW PROJECT. System for the prediction of electricity production from wind farms developed by IBERDROLA RENOVABLES. It emerged as a response to the need for a method of predicting production in order to participate in the spot electricity market and is presently used to carry our forecasts of wind farm electricity production.
